Any seo expert is going to tell you that in order to increase your rankings you need backlinks. One-way backlinks are the best and will give you the most “credit” when helping your ranks. One great way to build one way backlinks is to write articles and submit them to article directories. Writing a nice how to or website/product review article and linking to your site can not only increase your backlinks, but it may send you some traffic as well.
Now let me tell you why I don’t like submitting to these article directories. Posting duplicate articles on the web is not really the best method and it may even hurt cost you some ranks. Some people may argue with me on this but I firmly believe the best optimization method is to write unique articles. I prefer to write short articles. Some article directories have a 500 word minimum on all articles. Rather than sitting and practically writing a book, only to submit the same story over and over to a dozen article directories I prefer to use a different method.
I write short articles that are around 200-250 words, pretty much like writing a small post for a blog. Let use an example – Poker. I would write a short 200-250 word article talking about something specific like “full tilt poker review.” Inside that article I would put a link to my website somewhere in a sentence. After I have about 5 or 10 different poker related articles I would visit my favorite webmaster forums DigitalPoint, NamePros, WebHostingTalk, and v7n. Each forum has a special area designated to content. I post a message on the first board explaining that I have 10 different poker articles and that I am giving them away. All I ask for in return is that the owner keeps the link in place. Many people love getting these free articles for a number of reasons:
-It’s FREE unique content for their website
-It’s more content on their website to get indexed
Before giving someone an article go to their blog and see where your article is going to be posted. If you like it and think it’s relevant, give them the blog in HTML format with the URL to your website already in place.
There you have it! This post took quite some time to write but this method is a great way to get tons of in-content backlinks from various blogs on various IP addresses (much better than always submitting to the SAME article directories). Enjoy it and start writing some short blog posts. Signup for those boards and get on there and give them away – other people will certainly grab them and not mind linking back to your website!
